Frequently asked questions
What is BREASTEST plus™?
BREASTEST plus™ is a blood-based test developed by BCAL Diagnostics.
What is BREASTEST plus™ used for?
BREASTEST plus™ is used in conjunction with breast imaging to provide additional information that may assist healthcare professionals in assessing breast health—particularly for women with dense breast tissue. BREASTEST plus™ is designed as a rule out test.
What is a rule out test?
A rule-out test is a diagnostic tool used to exclude a specific disease or condition from consideration. In the context of breast cancer screening, such a test can assist doctors in determining the likelihood that a patient does not have breast cancer, especially when imaging results are inconclusive.
For example, BREASTEST plus™ is designed to be used alongside standard imaging to provide additional information, particularly for women with dense breast tissue. By offering further diagnostic insights, it supports doctors in making informed decisions about the necessity of additional testing or intervention.
What does BREASTEST plus™ measure?
The report provides a result of either Normal or Elevated, accompanied by a score between 0 and 100. A healthcare professional interprets the test result alongside breast imaging, relevant medical history, symptoms or clinical presentation and discusses next steps.
Who can have the test?
BREASTEST plus™ is currently available to women in consultation with a healthcare professional. Eligibility requirements apply.
When should the test be taken?
Timing: BREASTEST plus™ should be performed within 3 months of a patient’s most recent breast imaging.
Fasting: A patient must fast for at least 8 hours prior to the blood test. Water and prescribed medications are allowed.
How much does the test cost?
The cost of BREASTEST plus™ is $300, payable by EFTPOS at the time of collection. The test is not currently covered by Medicare or private health insurance.
Where is the test available?
